What does being a Kappa Delta mean?

Being a part of Kappa Delta is an amazing experience. As stated in Kappa Delta's purpose, "The purpose of Kappa Delta Sorority is to promote true friendship among the college girls of our country by inculcating into their hearts and lives those principles of truth, of honor, of duty, without which there can be no true friendship".  Below, some of our sisters share their memories and what Kappa Delta means to her.

“For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips,
speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge
that you are never alone.”

~Audrey Hepburn

Being a freshman, it is always difficult to find your place in such a new environment. But when it was finally rush time, I had finally found the most perfect home with the girls of Kappa Delta. I have become so close to so many girls in such a short time, and I have no idea how I survived without them before. We laugh, cry, study, tell our secrets and share our entire closets. But these KD girls are more than that, they have become my family away from home. I never dread coming back to school after break, but rather dread the time we won't be together. Although I will miss the seniors who have become a couple of my greatest friends, I know that our friendship and bond will last a lifetime. These girls truly are honorable, beautiful, and highest, and I still cannot believe I am lucky enough to have become a part of it.

To me, Kappa Delta is about more than friendship. These are the girls who have become my family. They are the ones who make my stomach hurt from laughing so hard. They are also the ones who would do anything for me to make me feel better when I'm crying. They're the ones I want to call immediately when I have great news. They're the girls I brag about to other people. These are the girls that would buy me flowers and chocolate after a fight with the ex. They're the ones going out to party with me when they should probably be studying in order to get my mind off the fight with the ex. They're also the ones proud of me when I do well on a test, and the ones I want to wish good luck before their big test. They're the girls I'm constantly proud of. They're in all my best memories of my time at Rollins and the ones I know will be in many more amazing memories in the future. These girls are more than just my best friends, they are my sisters.

alexdAlex Dickens, Senior, Social Chair.

Kappa Delta is more than just a sorority to me, it is a place where I can find people with the same interests as me who I have come to love. The moment I walked into the house during rush, I instantly felt welcomed by every sister there. Even as a pledge, I've never felt that I've been judged for my imperfections; I've always felt appreciated and loved by every sister no matter how well I know them. I look foward to making memories with these girls who I know I will stay close with even after college. I love them all! Kappa Delta is more than a sorority to me, it is my family.

Joining Kappa Delta has been the best decision I have made since I've been at Rollins. KD has provided me with a home away from home and a family I never would have otherwise had. These women are not only my best friends, they are my teachers, my cheerleaders, my shoulders to cry on, my party girls, and my role models. I could not be more proud to be a sister and council member of the most genuine, diverse, honorable, and beautiful girls I have ever met.

QuynhQuynh Nguyen, Senior.

Sorority life is not for everyone. I came into rush week with an open mind and have now found a strong support system for myself as I survive all that college will lay on me. Beyond the social life, the traditions, or the proud letters on your shirt, Kappa Delta is a diverse group of women that will never make you search for a hand in the dark. Instead, every sister has a little glow to her that will guide you through your toughest moments.

ericabErica Butterworth, Senior, President.

There are so many things I love about Kappa Delta. Coming into rush I was really scared. I felt comfortable at KD because I could be myself. Kappa Delta has made me a better person and I cannot imagine what I would do without these girls. I have met so many amazing people who I know I will love forever. I now know what true friendship is all about. Kappa Delta is more than just letters, it is a way of life that I am so thankful to be a part of.

When I decided to rush during my freshman year, I wanted to see what sororities were like and just see if I would fit anywhere, but I wasn't exactly looking to join one. I noticed throughout the week of rush though that KD was a place that truly felt like a second home to me. All of the girls were amazing and so involved on campus and in the community. After the third day, I knew that KD was where I wanted to be and now that I am a sister I love the sorority even more. I could never imagine being anywhere else or having any other sisters!

Since the day I stepped foot in Kappa Delta, I felt like I could be myself. I am a lot of things, but only at KD did I feel comfortable being all of them at one time. These girls take me for what I am and challenge me to reach my full potential. I want to be the best person I can be because of my sisters. They have become more than a sorority to me, they are my roommates, my late night Wendy's run, and my best friends. I wouldn't be the person I am today on this campus without the support and friendship that these girls offer me on a daily basis.

When I first came to Rollins I loved it and didn't think that it could get any better... well was I wrong! Little did I know that I was missing out on so much my first year! After I joined KD I had a whole new appreciation for Rollins and the friendships I had made. My sisters in Kappa Delta are so welcoming and loving, not to mention SOO FUN to be around! I would not trade a moment that I have spent with these girls for anything in the world! I look forward to making more memories and awesome times with my sisters!! Kappa Delta has become my home away from home and the family and friends that I can't live without!

The thing that I love most about Kappa Delta is the combination of different people that make it so unique. Kappa Delta is a place where so many people can feel comfortable and be able to be themselves. I have never met such a talented, fun, smart, and caring group of girls. Because of this, the moment I walked into Kappa Delta, I knew that it is where I wanted to be. It is a great place where people can make a difference, not just in their own lives, but in the lives of others as well. I know that I will be able to count on my sisters for years to come and I am so excited to spend my college years with these girls.

Nothing describes Kappa Delta better than our motto "to strive for that which is honorable, beautiful, and highest". Kappa Delta is special to me because it has given me the opportunity to create life long friendships and provided leadership and philanthropic opportunities.  My college experience without Kappa Delta is unimaginable.

A picture's worth 1,000 words. Well I have about 1,000 KD pictures but no one has time to read that many words!! So the simplest way I can explain something so great is like this: You know the smile you get when those stupid songs come on that remind you of that guy you just can't get out of your head... Well for me, Kappa Delta is that ridiculous smile I can't hide when EVERYTHING seems to remind me of these amazing girls that I love more than life itself!

Kappa Delta is truly where I have found my home at Rollins. As soon as I step into the house, I am overcome by a sense of warmth. My sisters are smart, funny, amazing girls that I know will always be there for me, and vice-versa. Whether it’s a late night in the library, a fun time out, or just lounging around, it’s always better with KDs. I’ve absolutely loved my experience thus far as a Kappa Delta and can’t wait to see what the next two and a half years have in store.
